Fluval Filters

Fluval is a subsidiary of Hagan, Inc (officially known as the Rolf C. Hagan Group of Companies), which was founded in 1955 and is headquartered in Montreal, Canada. The goal of the company is to create top of the line products for customers caring for exotic birds and fish. To partially meet this need, Hagan, Inc. created the Fluval Filter line for aquariums.

Fluval filters offer top notch filtration systems for most home aquariums. Depending on the size of your budget and the size of your tank, Fluval has a filter to fit your needs. What follows is a brief description of what these filters are capable of and some of their many uses, followed by an overview of each product.

What Fluval Filters are Good For

Fluval has created a range of filters for many different needs. These needs may vary based on budget, tank size, and population density of the aquarium.

For instance, the Fluval 305 is an external filter that is perfect for aquariums under less than seventy gallons; the 405 handles up to one hundred gallons; and the FX5 can manage up to four hundred gallons.

What Sets Them Apart

The Fluval design is what makes it different from most other filters. These filters feature AquaStop Valve technology that creates an air and water tight seal so hoses can be disconnected without breaking the vacuum. Because Fluval knows that aquarium set up and filtration can be a time consuming and tedious task, they have also made their systems as easy as possible. They feature instant priming to eliminate manual siphoning, a sturdy rim connector for easy attachment, and ribbed hosing to facilitate easy movement while achieving maximum water flow.

Filter Series'

The 05 Series

The featured 205, 305, and 405 filters all offer great quality and performance for different sized tanks. The 205 manages up to 40 gallon tanks, the 305 up to 70, and the 405 up to 100. With a range of sizes like this, any aquarium owner can find the right filter.

Each model in the 05 series is a great choice for chemical, mechanical, and biological filtering. They feature AquaStop valves, ribbed hosing, and lift lock clamps. The versatility of the series means it is highly customizable to meet the needs of almost any aquatic plant or fish collection.

The 05 Aquarium Canister filter handles up to 55 percent more volume than is achievable with round canisters, which means a larger filtration area and greater mass of filtration.

The FX5

This is the top of the line Fluval filter. Efficient, quiet filtration and unbelievable control of water characteristics set this apart from all other filters. Handing up to a four hundred gallon aquarium, this filter features a multi-stage filtration system that lets you stack media to meet the specific requirements for your tank.

The filtration process includes a clog resistant intake which sends the water through three layers of foam to eliminate all particulates. It is then passed through the media for cleaning before being reintroduced through a unique, flared, adjustable output nozzle. The nozzle is designed to create a gentle current which agitates the water and prevents waste settling and promotes breakdown.

The Bottom Line

The 05 Series and FX5 filters were created to meet the needs of a wide range of fish lovers, yet are highly customizable. On the following pages you will find more detailed information about each product and how they can be used.
